Only 30 to go…

 70 out of a 100 are done. Not all are masterpieces but I am determined to finish this goal.  Not sure why I thought it was a good idea but ‘it is what it is’! I think I bought in because they come in a cute box. So I am easy (and determined)!

Mini series…

Mini series because I had 3 9x12 canvases and this is what happened! Totally too sweet-as an artist I really need more angst.  Oh well.

The Garden Party

 

A sweet piece picturing a garden party. It is the first of three. It is only 9x12, so a fairly small piece. I decided to call my little dotted horse a ‘hordot’ …for me this animal represents pure kindness and he/she shows up in a lot of my paintings. I would describe this piece as naive, narrative and a blend of modernism and primitive simplification.  Art speak is so obscure-just hope you like it…di

Still finishing some smalls for EBay sales….think I am ready for some bigger work but have 7-8 more small canvases and my goal this year is to utilize what I have in my studio! I really am quite happy with what I am doing..so no complaints👍di

Finished finally!

 Did two videos of this art journal and both were too large to post on this blogspot! So I am posting a few pictures of some spreads and the whole video can be viewed on Instagram #difergiart  Did I mention it took me two years to finish this (it did sit on a shelf a lot of that time) and I seriously doubt I will do anymore (this is the fourth)….di

Working small…

 

So this is 2024 so far, minus two that sold!  I am enjoying these but know eventually I will want to do a larger piece.  I list these on EBay as ‘Difergi’ ..l know eBay is not a prestigious gallery BUT the supplemental income is nice.  And most people can afford these smaller pieces.

Large pieces can take me a month-maybe more, so of course they are pricey. Oh my-Talking about money is so crass! Let’s pretend we are all rich and of course you would like to buy a large piece for your penthouse. Or how about, you enjoy looking and I will continue enjoying creating. Love….di

These are pages from an art journal that I have been working on for over a year now! I just work on it between projects so it is slow going. I made the mistake of making too many pages and I will not do that again! This is my fourth art journal and I just do them for fun. I still have 5 spreads to do and some more on the cover page.  The next time you see a post on this journal, it will be in a video and finished!

Upcoming auction….

 

A new venture-online auctions. My first foray….

This is on Facebook, ‘Best Bid Scoop of Art’, and will run from Thursday February 8th until Sunday the 11th. The category for this auction is ‘Under 100’.  We are allowed to have seven items. My pieces are 5x7, 8x8, and 8x10. We will see how this goes.  There are 4-5 different artists.

Me and My Friends…

 

This is an 8x10 piece for an online auction in February. All pieces must be under $100 ..so therefore in my case they have to be smaller to comply with the price point. This piece engages me as I have a feeling that the rabbits are a bit mischievous and naughty.  

Let’s hope it is received positively by people not use to my ‘quirkiness’…di

2024-it is going to be a great year…

 I always love the beginning of a new year. Other people have resolutions, I redefine my art goals. And I get excited. This year I am cutting back and eliminating a lot of the hustle. I plan to work smaller and want to finish a couple of lingering projects. Having said that- my first event is an online auction. The theme is “under $100”. So, I  am working on a smaller scale. Each artist is allowed 7 pieces but they are suppose to be newly created. I have 3 finished and 4 to go! The auction is the second week of February…no pressure (lol)….Seriously, it should be fine and I am looking forward to finding new collectors.

Reframing a goal……

 

Sooooo, my goal was to have all 100 Pantone cards done by Christmas! Silly me! My new goal is 50 by Christmas (finished #48 today). And then (maybe) the rest finished by June 1 next year.

At my age this is not a failure-just an adjustment. Did I mention I have an art journal to finish also? Actually, the challenge is to find subjects I want to paint. The creativity meter is low. I need holiday rest and refueling. (And maybe a transatlantic cruise, wink)…..

Four out of 5 canvases

I purchased several stretched canvases at an estate sale quite a while ago and they have just sat quietly in my studio gathering dust.. They probably would have sat in my studio until I died because I usually prefer to work on larger size canvases. However, I have made it my goal to utilize these blank slates.

I have now done 4/5 12x12s and have started the 5th one. Then I have three 9x12s  and two odd ball sizes.  So probably in February i will actually go out and buy a new canvas! I suspect it will be on the larger spectrum.

Did I mention I have an art journal to finish and a ‘Pantone’ project half done? Oh well…it is good to be busy

Calling this one ‘Mirage’

I am calling this one ‘Mirage’. Titles are funny things-they can either focus the viewer or limit the viewer! I feel that the expression of the image should not be so overt that someone else’s imagination can’t take their own journey. 

I like this piece because of the merging of forms, richness of color and the emotional feel of it. It is a small piece (12x12) but a strong one.

The Magic of the Village

 

New small piece (12x12). Someone gifted me 5 12x12 and 3 9x12 canvases. I usually like working a bit larger but free is free! So a promise/goal has been made to myself to not buy another canvas until I have used all of these canvases up.  It is actually a fun little project. The main deterrent is that I seem to tighten up a bit-not as much abstraction in the work.  Will have to get over that.

Still life….

 

I don’t usually do ‘still lifes’ but sometimes it is fun to switch gears for a day.  When I do observational work I do not get the same rush as I do when creating something one of a kind.  I like the thought of uniqueness.

However, replicating something pretty is fun too.

“Holding Onto Life”

 

This is my newest piece in my ‘circle of life series’. It’s highly symbolic in that the orbs are our spirits, woman is the vessel and of course we need man. The gift of life is such a special blessing.  I am always amazed, as I walk along in my aging body, how lucky I am to have lived in a physical form

This piece is 20”x20, acrylic on canvas.

Always working…

Always working though I am calling myself a ‘retired artist’! ( that’s bs because artists don’t ever really retire) It just makes conversations easier.

Am painting smalls that are available on eBay. You just search ‘Difergi’ and I will pop up. Since I am obsessed with faces and obsessed with color, this is what you get. 

We all have our paths and this is mine at the moment.  Enjoy the faces-they seem to be on the serious side today….hmmmm, go figure! Di

 New little piece, no title.  Thinking of something like …my peeps….peers…..my social group…will have to think about it!

I think it’s a sweet piece ( whatever that means). It is one of those that you just relax and let the painting unfold and let the paint speak for itself!

“Thoughts”

 

This is 22”x30”, acrylic on heavy art paper. It is part of the 2023 ‘ Circle of Life’ series.  I am pleased with this one. (Artists do have favorite pieces!)

The piece is visually textural, loose and emotive.  Those are three qualities that mean a lot to me.  The other quality that matters to me (the most) is that the style is uniquely mine.
